The first look of Ranveer Singh as Allaudin Khilji to arrive on October 3
We have seen Deepika Padukone as the beautiful, elegant Queen Padmini aka Padmavati. We had seen Shahid Kapoor as Padmavati's husband, the grim, battle-ravaged Maharawal Ratan Singh. And now it is Ranveer Singh's turn!
We have seen Deepika Padukone as the beautiful, elegant Queen Padmini aka Padmavati. We had seen Shahid Kapoor as Padmavati’s husband, the grim, battle-ravaged Maharawal Ratan Singh. And now we are very eager to see the villain of the piece, the evil, lustful megalomaniac, Emperor Allaudin Khilji, played by Ranveer Singh. And now within a few hours, we will get to see Ranveer Singh as the Delhi Emperor with the lustful obsession for Padmavati that destroyed an entire kingdom.
With one tweet, Ranveer Singh announced that the first look will come tomorrow i.e. October 3, as he tweeted, “Sultan Alauddin Khilji arrives tomorrow morning #Khilji”. This is the first time he is playing a negative role in a movie, so that’s why we are quite excited to see his look in the movie (as well as in the trailer too). Ranveer’s beard has been the talking point ever since his look was leaked, so we are curious to see the entire getup.
Padmavati is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and is based on the poem Padmavat, written by Malik Muhammad Jayasi in 1540 CE. The movie had its share of controversies with a fringe Rajput group, Shri Rajput Karni Sena, who vandalised the sets of the movie a couple of times, and even manhandled the director once. They have issues with how SLB is handling the equation between Padmavati and Khilji.
It is said that playing Khilji had even took a toll on Ranveer’s mind. A news daily quotes a source, “Ranveer actually has his friends worried. To play Alauddin Khilji, he has been researching and exploring extreme negativity. He is a friendly, warm young man, like all of us. To become Khilji, he took the same route as he did to play Peshwa Bajirao. He locked himself up in his apartment, prepped and stayed in the headspace for weeks. Getting out of this dark, intimidating mindset wasn’t easy for him. The film has also been shot for almost a year now, so sustaining the Khilji persona was very challenging. It affected his reactions and behavior towards people. Which is why, his friends advised him to get help in emerging beyond Khilji. He is going to a psychiatrist to get rid of the Khilji influences.”
