Shahid Kapoor on Padmavati trailer: In the trailer, my character is underplayed
At the closing ceremony of 19th Jio MAMI Film Festival on Wednesday, Padmavati actor Shahid Kapoor graced the red carpet and spoke about his role in the film. "It is a privilege to be a Rajput king. I feel very proud as an Indian to play a king from a dynasty, which is known to be brave, fearless and respectful towards women," said the actor.
Shahid Kapoor is looking every bit princely in the trailer of Padmavati which was launched earlier this month. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali film has received a lot of flak from certain communities in the country, but the trailer of the film has received a lot of appreciation from the industry and the audience that is awaiting the film’s release.
At the closing ceremony of 19th Jio MAMI Film Festival on Wednesday, Padmavati actor Shahid Kapoor graced the red carpet and spoke about his role in the film. When he was asked how was his experience of playing Raja Rawal Ratan Singh, he stated that it has been a journey of a year, and that the whole cast had to put in a lot of hard work.
Shahid said, “It has been a journey of the year. It’s a film, which everybody has worked really hard on. It is a privilege to be a Rajput king. I feel very proud as an Indian to play a king from a dynasty, which is known to be brave, fearless and respectful towards women. It’s (Padmavati) a legendary tale about the amazing people that existed in the time and I am privileged to have played Raja Rawal Ratan Singh. It’s difficult to say. I want people to see the film. I know the trailer’s out. The looks are out and everyone is talking about it but you have to see the film to understand what it is about and to truly experience it.”
He also added, “This has been going on for a year. I know you guys want us to talk about it but the right thing to do at this point is to let the right authorities to deal with it. The producers, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and everybody, who is at the helm of affairs, need us right now to not really comment on it because we are trying to contain the situation. All I will say is that we are ready to release the film on December 1. It is a film every Indian will be proud of because it celebrates India, our culture and what we stand for. It shows everybody, who is from this country, in the most amazing light. That’s the endeavour of this film. I feel people will see this when they watch the film. People should really see the film to decide.”
While Padmavati is already generating good buzz, the makers have not started promoting the film yet. On this, Shahid said that he is also waiting to start promoting the film.
He said, “I am also waiting. It’s not in my hands how the film is promoted. The trailer has been out and we are getting phenomenal response. The trailer speaks for itself and the film will speak for itself. The energies that everyone has put in for a year will truly be seen on the screen.”
On receiving a lot of praise for his look and the introduction to his role in the film, Shahid revealed that his role has been underplayed in the trailer and that there is more to his character in the film.
“I think you guys are being very kind because in the trailer my character is underplayed. You will discover him only on the big screen. Wait for the film,” he said.
So, was it a deliberate attempt to underplay his role in the trailer? To this, the actor said, “I don’t know. Those are not my choices. Those are the choices of the filmmaker. I have just given 200 percent to the film.”
