Sunny Leone Laila Main Laila, Shraddha Kapoor's The Humma Song: 7 Remixes We Didn't Need In 2017
Though we agree with ‘old is gold,’ the idea of remixing past songs was an amusing idea initially until Bollywood choked it down our throats in what was a year full of tampering with old classics. Lending the lyrics and music of old, throwing in a dubstep or two and transforming them into EDM songs that are played at Ganpati mandals and shaadis is not needed. In fact, the entire year that was filled with unwanted reduxes speaks of Bollywood’s mentality as a whole – recycling.
And thankfully, many of them didn’t even get a good reception. And hoping that Bollywood is over coming up with new remixes of old songs going into the new year, we’ve compiled a list of at least 7 songs that we could’ve done best without:
Laila Main Laila – Raees
First and foremost. Nor did the film need this song, nor did the audiences. Poking at the residual love for the original old song among audiences, the song crooned by Pawni Pandey starring Sunny Leone was just so-so.
Despite Rajesh Roshan trying his best to restore the essence of the music of the 90s in Kaabil, it eludes us why he thought giving a Kishore Kumar song to Raftaar would be a good idea. If you can guess it, please share with us as well in the comments section.
The Humma Song – OK Jaanu
Many will argue over the inclusion of this Jubin Nautiyal and Shashaa Tirupati crooner, but after watching Arvind Swamy and Manisha Koirala groove at the original number, watching Siddharth Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor recreate the classic in a bedroom just didn’t do justice for us.
Socha Hai – Baadshaho
Jubin Nautiyal seems to have become a specialist of this genre. The song begins by saying how this is a remix of an old classic without any rap. And the song managed to disappoint despite that. Watching Esha Gupta in the video may change the opinion of a few, but the song alone does not do it. Trust me, I tried.
Kaavaan Kaavaan (Remix) – Lucknow Central
Starting on a rather daunting note, remaking the classic Sukhwinder Singh number was just unnecessary. Nor does it fit in the album, nor does the dhol pair well with the EDM. The song crooned by Renesa along with Sukhwinder Singh himself, (and a rap portion by Farhan Akhtar?) is one that can you can skip playlist without a second thought.
Gulabi 2.0 – Noor
The Sonakshi Sinha starrer Noor failed to live up to expectations on many aspects, music being one of them. But what do you expect when you try to recreate a Mohammed Rafi song with a major portion of rap and little trace of the original song. The original song drowned under the burgeoning electronic music such that it does little to justify its title.
Jaanu – Behen Hogi Teri
We did not intend to put this one at the bottom of the pile. We really didn’t. It perhaps belongs at the top but anyway. If your song is relying only on bass punches, rap portions (and wrong spellings), it shouldn’t qualify as a redux. Rajkummar Rao better hope the Oscars jury don’t come across this one.
