The Details on Sonam Kapoor Closing the Ralph & Russo Show

Today’s Ralph & Russo Couture Fall 2017 show closed with a surprising twist. Forgoing their usual power model, Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo dressed blockbuster Indian actor Sonam Kapoor in the bridal look for the grand finale. “Sonam is a very close friend of the brand,” Tamara Ralph tells Vogue Arabia. “And a true reflection of the quintessential Ralph & Russo woman. It was an incredibly special moment for us having her close the show as our bride.” The couture house shares with Vogue Arabia that the dress, a champagne-colored Chantilly lace bridal gown, featured a double duchess overskirt and was hand-embroidered with silver and gold bullion, floral silk thread work, sequins, and pearlescent micro beads. “This season’s bridal gown is particularly ornate,” adds Tamara Ralph. “I wanted to ensure that it was in keeping with the iridescence of the collection, so we produced a jewelry inspired embroidery design and custom jeweled headpiece so that Sonam would glisten in the runway lighting.”
It was accented with an ornately embroidered tulle headpiece.

The dress required more than 100 000 Swarovski crystals and more than 8 000 hours of hand-embroidery. From conception to creation, approximately 100 artisans worked on the bridal dress.

Singer Zendaya and actor Michelle Rodriguez attended the show, along with Saudi producer Mohammed Al Turki. Models, including Arizona Muse, walked the runway in a snow-white palette accented with metallic and ebony.
